I got a little feedback from a few of you looking for slightly more frequent yet shorter posts, which is an idea I can get behind. I used to stress a bit about nice fat posts with “lots of interesting photos and stuff”. Why not just one city at a time my friend Cheryl said? Great idea! Also I’ve gotten a sizeable number of complaints since building this fine piece of real estate that the whole talking and working our way backwards was a bit confusing. That’s fine too, I can make a small concession for my readers (but small, this isn’t going to become a habit or anything).
long time coming
A lot has happened since you and I last spoke. I still have all four limbs intact and I hope the same can be said for you. I’ve crossed six borders in a from-hell 24-hour bus ride, 800k with a Brit who owned a Bug and then finally a lovely ferry that brought me into the great unknowns of South America.
At the previous dispatch I was straight-chilling at the lovely Lake Atitlan in Guatemala and had just engaged in what would be a one of the best Couchsurfing probably anyone ever has gotten in on. Looking back, sifting through the fog those memories live in, maybe a whole year has slipped past! Closer to reality, I would say about 5 weeks. If I was a little more organized (which will be my epitaph when I pass no doubt) and got these out in a timely manner, this could just read in regular chronological order. I’m not, duh, so we’re going to move from the now, BACK TO THE FUTURE!!! (sorry…) Anyway, now take me by the hand…
Un dibujo: El segundo parte
I’ve been doing a few little drawings for the little guy I have all over my site and am just going to start posting them…any ideas for future ideas most welcome. I think I may create a few different characters but I’ve been drawing that one guy for so long it seems kind of intimidating to get into something else, which of course means I have to do it, no?
Also also, this is inspired by a pretty famous painting and maybe if you look at it long enough it will come to you. Did you come up with it??? Write it below and I’ll do a drawing of you!
escuela español es el cielo…
I am going to stop apologizing for these being so late, as much as I want to be the “multiple posts a month” guy it just might not happen. Isn’t it a bit more special if we have one on a monthly basis??? It gives you a chance to completely forget I even exist only to be like, “oh yeah, Hunter isn’t dead yet!” and check this scene out. Maybe??? Anyone???
Anywayyyyyyyyyy, I spent the last glorious month with Spanish school and lovely host family in Xela, Guatemala. The real name of the city is Quetzaltenango, but it is nicknamed Xela for some reason. There’s a ton of Mayan influence around here and I overheard someone talking about an original name stemming from that. Also cool note, there are something along the lines of 25+ different native languages in this country alone stemming from that Mayan influence. Guatemala is a pretty small country by our standards, so imagine maybe the state of Arizona (which is around the same size) having 25+ different languages throughout the state. Difficult to communicate widely to say the least.
this is just a test, sorry to be a bother…
i am having a hard time with posts being auto-sent to the two people who have subscribed, but i think i got it figured out, this will hopefully be the only time i will bother you with a worthless email.
new post by Wednesday!
